With Movie in Development at Warner Bros.
Rob Liefeld is returning to his character Avengelyne, with a new series slated to debut from Image Comics in October 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Daniel Maine will be the artist, and Doni Cahyono will be the colorist. The new series comes as a film about the character, directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Margot Robbie, is in the works at Warner Bros. (see “New ‘Avengelyne’ Movie“). Image will offer a first look at the comic at San Diego Comic Con this week.
“My entry point here in the comic book is somewhat different than the entry point to the cinematic version, but they kind of arrive at the same place,” Liefeld said in the article.
Avengelyne was created by Liefeld, Vampirella model Cathy Christian, and Tony Lobito and was based on Christian’s portrayal of the vampire superhero. Maximum Press launched the first comic series in 1995. The character reappeared in several comics published by Awesome Entertainment, Avatar Press, and Arcana Studio before Image launched a new ongoing series by Mark Poulton and Owen Gieni in 2011.
