Capstone Games has announced three new releases scheduled to launch on August 1: ANTS, Quebec, and The Royal Society of Archeology.
In ANTS, players take control of their own anthill and try to make it successful by expanding into the garden outside and marking their territory as they gather food and fight off other garden critters. During the game, they must expand their hive by strategically adding tiles to their own personal player board, lay eggs, care for their larvae, and grow them into specialized workers that they can deploy to achieve their goals. The game features elements of worker management, area control, and tile placement.
ANTS was created by Renato Ciervo and Andrea Robbiani. The game includes a double-sided main board, 4 anthill boards, 126 tiles, 158 cards, 109 cubes, 82 tokens, and 160 discs. Intended for two to four players, ages thirteen and up, games take about ninety minutes to play. MSRP is $69.99.
Quebec explores 400 years of the history of the city with the same name. Each player heads a wealthy family trying to gain prestige by guiding the construction and development of the city. Each turn, a player may choose to focus on construction, commit their workers to the city’s five zones of influence to earn points, or recruit a leader into their family.
Philippe Beaudoin and Pierre Poissant-Marquis are the designers of Quebec, which was originally published in 2011 under the Scorpion Masque mark. It was designed for two to five players, ages fourteen and up, and plays in a little over an hour. MSRP is $54.99.
Produced in partnership with HUCH!, The Royal Society of Archeology is set in the heady days of the early 1900s when teams of adventurers conducted expeditions around the world hunting artifacts and lost histories. Based in London, the players must raise funds for their expedition while gaining expertise at the university before heading into the field. Their archeologists develop skills and knowledge during the course of the game, improving their ability to perform actions and unlocking bonuses by sharing spaces with more experienced opposing archaeologists. To win, they must balance their scientific achievements and their prestige in the archaeological community.
The Royal Society of Archeology is the creation of Eric Jumel (Last Heroes). It plays with one to four players, ages fourteen and up, in about two hours. MSRP is $59.99.
Capstone recently released expansions for Tea Garden, Pagan, and Wandering Towers (see “More ‘Tea Garden,’ ‘Pagan’ Coming from Capstone” and “Capstone Expands ‘Wandering Towers’”). The company began its first collaboration with HUCH! earlier this year with Rising Cultures (see “Capstone Partners with HUCH! for First Collaborative Release”).
