DC Comics will collect the pre-Alan Moore runs of Swamp Thing in a new omnibus that will include a completed version of Swamp Thing #25 for the first time as well as a previously unpublished Patchwork Man story.
Swamp Thing: Dark Genesis is a two-volume slipcased hardcover set that includes Swamp Thing #1-25, including the early issues by writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson, The Saga of the Swamp Thing #1-15, The Saga of the Swamp Thing Annual #1, The Brave and the Bold #122 and #176, DC Comics Presents #8, Challengers of the Unknown #81-87, and stories from Phantom Stranger #14, House of Secrets #92 and #140, and the unpublished Patchwork Man story that was supposed to have run in House of Secrets #141. The comics have been remastered to the original colors by colorist Jose Villarubia. The oversized, 1,136-page set will be released on November 24, 2026, with an MSRP of $150.
Swamp Thing #25 which was to feature a battle between Swamp Thing and Hawkman, was advertised in the previous issue but never completed; the series ended with #24. The script and most of the pencils survived, however, and now the issue has been completed by artist Joe Rubenstein and colorist Jose Villarubia, and the finished version will be published in the omnibus for the first time.
Patchwork Man was a character who first appeared in Swamp Thing and then got a standalone origin story in House of Secrets #140; a second story was supposed to appear in House of Secrets #141 but was killed before publication and appears in the omnibus for, apparently, the first time in English.
DC is returning to another unfinished Swamp Thing work with Swamp Thing 1989 (see “DC to Finally Publish Controversial Rick Veitch ‘Swamp Thing’ Story”).
