DC Comics has dubbed 2027 the “Year of Wonder,” with plans to focus on Wonder Woman with new stories and creative teams, and they have kicked it off with the news of big changes to the main Wonder Woman series.
Writer Louise Simonson and artist Cian Tormey will take over as the creative team with Wonder Woman #41 for a four-issue story arc in which Wonder Woman sets out to bring the Amazons back into Man’s World. The first issue will be released on January 20, 2027, with a main cover by Ryan Sook and variant covers by Daniel Sampere, Walter Simonson, and Tormey, a foil variant by David Nakayama and a Sweater Weather variant by Alexander Lozano.
“I haven’t written many books with female leads, and they don’t come any more iconic than Diana,” Simonson said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Teaming her up with Lois Lane, another iconic character, is a dream come true. Throw in Granny Goodness and her Female Furies? It doesn’t get more fun than that.”
Simonson and Tormey are taking over from the current Wonder Woman team of writer Tom King and artist Daniel Sampere.
Following their arc, writer Stephanie Williams and artist Elena Casagrande take over for the next six issues, Wonder Woman #45-50, running through October 2027. Williams wrote Wonder Woman #29-30 and #35-36, and co-wrote Wonder Woman 2026 Annual: Wonder War – The Matriarch Special #1, all in 2026.
“Diana has my whole heart,” Williams said, “so getting to come back to her world after Wonder Woman and Matriarch feels like coming home, only this time with a longer runway. Six issues gives me room to really sit with Diana, to let her be fierce and funny and compassionate all at once, and to let the story breathe.”
DC plans to announce more Wonder Woman stories and creative teams throughout 2027.
Simonson is writing Uncle Scrooge: A Christmas Carol, a one-shot due out in November (see “Louise Simonson Teams Up with Disney Artists“). Williams will write the Next Level series Vixen (see “DC Announces Creators for New Next Level Series“).
