Dark Horse Comics has announced Invasive Species, a new five-issue series by writer Frank Miller, artist Ryan Benjamin, and colorist Alex Sinclair.  The publisher announced the series at San Diego Comic-Con and had a signing at their booth, and they also revealed that Miller is working on more projects with them.  No information was provided on what the series is about or when it will launch.

However, at the ComicsPRO Retailers Day, Stuart Schreck, Dark Horse’s Director of Sales, Direct Market, told retailers that the publisher is going to change its strategy to emphasize ongoing and maxi series rather than short ones, to help bring customers into stores every month, pointing to the newly announced Dungeons & Dragons ongoing series (see “Dark Horse to Launch Ongoing ‘Dungeons & Dragons’“).  “We’re trying to take our biggest licenses, our most beloved creators, and support them with these ongoings and these long running series,” Schreck said, “so that your customers put them on their pull lists, and are showing up in the store month after month.  We want to make these launches new reader friendly.  We also want to make sure that there is backlist available for these titles when they launch, so that you can direct these new readers to that backlist.”

Schreck also talked about the variant covers for Dungeons & Dragons.  The first 12 issues will have open-to-order foil variants by Dungeons & Dragons dragon artist Antonino José Manzanedo.  These will have no trade dress and will be printed in layers on foil paper to create a sensation of shimmering depth.  There will also be playable stats for each dragon on the inside front cover.  The covers will be listed as Cover C and these issues will have an MSRP of $6.99.Source: ICv2
