Wizards of the Coast Reveals Product Line Deets for 'Magic: The Gathering - The Hobbit'

Wizards of the Coast revealed product line details for Magic: The Gathering – The Hobbit, a new booster set, which will hit stores on August 14, 2026.

WotC announced their return to Middle-earth with The Hobbit booster set last year (see “2026 ‘Magic: The Gathering’ Lineup“).  The SKUs for this set are pretty much what one would expect out of a Universes Beyond set at this point with the notable exception that there are no Commander Decks for this set. WotC has also opted not to do Beginner Boxes or Jumpstart boosters for this set.  The Hobbit product line is as follows:

The Hobbit Collector Booster Packs and Displays.  Boxes contain 12 packs with 15 Magic: The Gathering cards. Less than 1% of these boosters will have a Headliner Mythic card; MSRP per pack is $37.99.

The Hobbit Play Booster Packs and Displays.  Play Boosters come with 14 Magic: The Gathering cards; they are packaged in 30-pack displays.  Each pack comes with 1-3 cards of rarity Rare or higher, 3-5 uncommons, 7-9 commons, a land card, and a traditional foil.  These packs may contain the following numbered cards: HOB 1-248. MSRP per pack is $6.99.

The Hobbit Bundle.  The bundle has 9 Play Boosters, 4 foil full-art seasonal Hobbit lands, 15 traditional foil basic lands (5 are full-art), 15 non-foil basic lands (5 are full-art), a foil alt-art card, a storage box, an Oversized Spindown life counter, and 2 reference cards.  Bundles will retail for $69.99.

The Hobbit Gift Bundle.  Gift bundles come with 9 Play Boosters, 4 surge foil full-art seasonal Hobbit lands, 15 traditional foil basic lands (5 are full-art), 15 non-foil basic lands (5 are full-art), a bundle-exclusive foil alt-art card, a foil storage box, an Oversized Spindown life counter, 2 reference cards, and a Collector Booster.  It will retail for $89.99.

The Hobbit Scene Boxes.  Scene boxes contain 6 traditional foil cards and 6 art-only cards that create a scene from the series when properly aligned.  They also come with 3 Play Boosters and a display easel for $41.99.  There are two different Scene Boxes for this set: Crack the Plates and Treasures of Smaug

The Hobbit Draft Night.  Draft Night boxes contain 12 Play Boosters, a Collectors Booster, 90 lands, and 10 double-sided lands.  They will retail for $119.99.

The Hobbit Prerelease Pack.  Prerelease Packs are specifically for use in prerelease events and include 6 Play Booster packs, a traditional foil rare or mythic rare card, and a Spindown life counter.

Alongside the announcement of product line details, WotC also revealed several card images from the set at MagicCon: Las Vegas 2026. Aside from the controversial Dan Frazier The One Ring card (see “Joint Apology“), WotC also released images for cards featuring Smaug, Bilbo Baggins, the Arkenstone and more.
