Ludus Magnus will be releasing Requiem: Downfall of Magic, a cooperative adventure-style game set in the world of Black Rose Wars, with a launch planned for November 30.
Set in a fantasy version of 1500s Europe, Requiem challenges players with campaign-style adventures in which players explore the game map and make decisions that will guide the storyline towards a climactic final battle, each offering its own unique ending. The game is built on asymmetric characters with their own abilities which they use to pursue quests and fight hostile creatures. A Chapter Book presents the storyline as well as the specific game rules that apply to each quest. The adventures play out on the game’s hexagonal tiles, which depict the setting and important game information. The separate Discovery Book is consulted during the adventure, teasing elements of the game setting and presenting challenges and mysteries for the players to overcome.
The core game comes with four heroes, each with a miniature and base, a large character card, two dice, game cards, and tokens for that hero, four player boards, 169 tokens, 30 enemy miniatures with bases, 32 terrain tiles, the main game board, 15 Chapter Books, ten Discovery Books, 560 game cards, six dice, and 40 cubes. The game is intended for one to four players, ages 14 and up. Each adventure takes about an hour and a half to play. MSRP is $149.00.
Two add-on sets are also scheduled to release along with the core set:
- Merciless Hunt, offering a ten-quest campaign centered around a mysterious beast terrorizing the Black Forest as well as introducing new foes, a new companion, and a new character class. MSRP $68.00.
- Selene, which adds the Titanid Selene and a four-part adventure based around an ancient pagan temple. Comes with an oversized Selene miniature plus Handmaid minis, a new potion, and a new Skill Card system that players can unlock as their characters level up. MSRP $55.00.
Ludus Magnus Studio funded the production of Requiem: Downfall of Magic through a Kickstarter campaign in April 2024 which attracted €428,112 (about $464,000) from 2,593 backers (an average of €165.10 or about $178.00 per backer).
Last year, Ludus Magnus launched its fantasy Viking game Runar (see “‘Runar’ Storms into Retail”).
