Hachette Boardgames has revealed expansions for two of its games, both set in the world of Ancient Greece: Akropolis: Pantheon and Cyclades: Maelstrom. The two expansions will release in April.
Akropolis: Pantheon adds a cooperative mode to Gigamic’s acclaimed city-building game (see “Hachette Will Release ‘Akropolis’ into U.S. Retail”), presenting players with “Architectural Challenges” for the Capital that must be completed to earn Divine Altars. By matching Altars to appropriate locations, the players earn points, trying to fulfill the goals set by the Scenario tiles. Personal cities no longer score, only Capital spaces adorned with the proper Altar.
The expansion adds five starting tiles, three double-sided Scenario tiles, 20 Architectural Challenge tiles, and 20 Divine Altar tiles. A copy of the base game is required to play. Akropolis: Pantheon supports games with one to four players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. MSRP is $16.99. Expansion created by Akropolis designer Jules Messaud.
The original Akropolis was recognized as a Spiel des Jahres “recommended” game in 2023 (see “Spiel des Jahres 2023 Nominees Announced”).
The Grecco-Fantasy world of Cyclades: Legendary Edition (see “Hachette Reveals ‘Cyclades: Legendary Edition’”) faces a new challenge from Typhon and the Nereids, threatening destruction from the deep. To challenge them, swift-footed Achilles and strong-armed Heracles also join the confrontation.
This is the cardboard standee version of this expansion, including 14 cardboard standees, 20 cards, and nine tokens. Intended for games with two to six players. MSRP is $14.99. Created by Bruno Cathala and Judovic Maublanc, designers of Cyclades.
The new expansions follow the March launch of Symbiosis (see “Hachette Announces ‘Symbiosis’”) and Rollie (see “Make Cash or Crash with ‘Rollie’”).
