With New York Comic Con 2027 starting later this week, Dynamite has provided an update as to a few of their anticipated series that had previously been delayed. Due to multiple factors from the creative and publishing sides, Dynamite Entertainment announces that Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel are now planned to kick off this coming March. The first issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Kelly Thompson and Stephen Byrne is set to release March 10, 2027. Angel series starring the dashing vampire detective drawn by Giulia Giacomino will follow within the same month. The twin titles are intertwined for their initial stretch, making each issue of both essential to follow Thompson’s ambitious epic. Additionally, fans will be blasting off on new adventures in the Serenity in Firefly by Mark Russell and Lorenzo Re starting in February.

Writer Kelly Thompson’s story for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel has evolved and become more ambitious, so it was deemed best to take a step back and up the page count to meet the story and deliver the best possible product for fans. Buffy #1 and Angel #1 will have significant story page increases from average issues — at no additional cost to readers or retailers.

Buffy #1 features 35 story pages, followed by 32 story pages for Angel #1. Both books will be released as 48-page comics, still priced at Dynamite’s standard $4.99. Dynamite Entertainment has decided to resolicit these titles, with the support of the creative teams, to ensure that these expansive sagas get off to the best possible launches.

Eagle-eyed fans will notice some censoring on the Angel #1 cover by Clayton Crain, which includes a massive first appearance for a new foe known as Leviathan! Fans will have to tune into the comic series in March to learn what he looks like and start to follow his story. An even bigger reveal is being held close to the vest too, that will shatter the Buffy fandom in shock when they get their hands on the first chapters…

Additionally, with the resolicitation timing, editor Nate Cosby is assembling even more gorgeous variants for collectors to choose from, including fun options like connecting covers across both books. Even more exciting updates are around the corner for Buffy and Angel comics.

In addition to the move of Buffy and Angel, the hotly anticipated return of Firefly comics to readers’ pulls is now set for launch in April. Eisner Award-winning writer and longtime superfan of the show Mark Russell is teaming up with rising star illustrator Lorenzo Re to craft new episodic adventures of Mal, Zoe, Wash, and the whole beloved mythos.
