Positive ‘Secret Lair’ Vibes from ‘Commander Deck: Hakune Miku’ Sale Turn Out to Be Short Lived for Fans
Wizards of the Coast paused their sale of their Secret Lair x MSCHF: Zeta Set, a DTC booster drop set for Magic: The Gathering, due to technical difficulties.
Not long after Secret Lair Director Matthew Hodgins highlighted some of the things that went right with the recent Commander Deck: Hatsune Miku DTC sale (see “Tale of the Tape“), another Secret Lair sale experienced some obstacles similar what other sales had in the past (see “Meltdown“). The sale queue began at 9 am PT. At around 9:42 am PT, the queue for the sale was paused to “manage technical difficulties.” Customers were told to keep the page open to maintain their position.
Per usual, Magic fans shared their experiences and thoughts about the queue pause via X. Some of the posts mentioned incomplete checkouts, timed out payment screens, checkout times expiring randomly, and not receiving confirmation e-mails post purchase. Others alleged that there were “bypass links left open on the site” that customers could manually checkout through. The Zeta Set preorder turned out to be yet another unpredictable sale run through the aptly-named Chaos Vault.
As of 10:20 PT, WotC was still working to resolve their “temporary issue” with the site. If customer had placed an order for Zeta Set, and they believe something went wrong, WotC encouraged them to contact customer support.
[9.2.2026. Article updated.] As of 11:00 PM PT, the sale resumed, and minutes later, customers were informed that the Zeta Set packs were sold out. Individual Zeta Set packs were selling between $70 to $100 per pack on eBay shortly after the sale closed; 12-pack lots were selling between $700 to $900.
