With one week left to go, the Kickstarter campaign to fund Marvel Artist Archive: Jim Lee, published by Pan Universal Galactic Worldwide, has racked up over $300,000 in pledges.
Marvel Artist Archive: Jim Lee is a 270-page collection of Lee’s art from his time at Marvel, including his run with writer Chris Claremont on X-Men, compiled and annotated by writer and editor Stuart Moore. The deluxe volume has a 9” x 12” trim size and a sewn binding so it lies flat when open. In addition to iconic comic pages and spreads, it includes process pages showing how the work evolved and interviews with numerous people including Lee himself. The book is offered with an assortment of dust jackets and slipcases.
The “Friendly Local Retailer Tier” of the Kickstarter offers three copies of the campaign-exclusive slipcase and one each of the limited-edition Wolverine, Captain America, and Magneto & Rogue slipcases, plus six copies of X-Men #1 3D and six sets of X-Men #1 Mini-Covers, for $299, a 50% discount. Retailers also get a 50% discount on any add-on items.
CEO John Nee told ICv2 this is the first book in a new category for PUG Worldwide (see “ICv2 Interview: PUG-Worldwide CEO John Nee”). “[W]e’re looking at the Artist Archive line really as this hybrid thing that does give you a real good feeling of the art, but it’s not just 300 pinups,” he said. “We have editorial material; you get behind the scenes.”
Marvel recently published an omnibus edition of Lee and writer Bill Mantlo’s early series Alpha Flight (see “Marvel to Omnibize ‘Alpha Flight’”).
