Wizards of the Coast announced two prerelease changes for Reality Fracture, a new booster set for Magic: The Gathering. Prerelease events for this set begin on September 25, 2026.
The time has come for WotC to do away with At-Home Prereleases, an initiative which had previously been announced last year (see “Phasing Out At-Home ‘Magic: The Gathering’ Prereleases“). These events were originally introduced during the pandemic to allow players to enjoy a Magic prerelease in a world where getting together IRL was not advisable. Retailers can still sell Prerelease Kits to players to use at home, outside of their scheduled events, but those sales will not count toward event participation or contribute to ticket metrics and future allocations.
WotC also updated the Two-Headed Giant Prerelease format. The current format allots two players two Prerelease decks to build two decks out of with a combined pool of cards. As of Reality Fracture, teams will also receive two booster packs along with their kits to build their decks (the additional boosters will come from retailers’ launch product order). The change was mostly made to balance card selection in pools, allowing for an easier deck-building experience.
