Seven Seas Entertainment will publish horror master Kazuo Umezz’s Ultraman manga in English for the first time, marking the 60th anniversary of both the original TV show and the manga. Umezz, who died in 2024 (see “RIP Kazuo Umezu“) is best known for horror classics such as The Drifting Classroom, Cat-Eyed Boy, and Orochi. He began the manga adaptation, in 1966, as the show was being broadcast, and it has more of a horror vibe than the original. The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Shuukan Shounen Magazine and later published in editions of two and three volumes in Japan but has not been officially licensed in English until now. Seven Seas will release Ultraman by Kazuo Umezz – The Classic Manga Collection in July 2027 as a large-trim hardcover with an MSRP of $42.99.
Marvel Comics is about to release an omnibus collecting its Ultraman comics, both those produced in the 1990s and those from the 2020s (see “Marvel to Omnibize Ultraman“). VIZ Media and Marvel have both published Ultraman/Marvel crossovers (see “VIZ, Marvel Announce New Ultraman/Spider-Man Manga“), and VIZ publishes the modern Ultraman manga by Tomohiro Shimoguchi and Eiichi Shimizu (see “VIZ Acquires ‘Ultraman’ Manga“).
