Comic-Con will remain in San Diego through 2030. Mayor Todd Garcia made the announcement at the official opening of Comic-Con 2026, alongside representatives from Comic-Con International, the San Diego Convention Center, the San Diego Tourism Authority, and other local organizations. Mayor Garcia’s dog Diego was also present, wearing Minion cosplay.
“Comic-Con belongs in San Diego, and today’s announcement ensures this incredible tradition will continue here through 2030,” Gloria said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “This agreement is the result of years of partnership and reflects our shared commitment to the fans, creators, businesses and workers who make Comic-Con unlike anything else in the world. We’re proud to welcome everyone back to San Diego for another unforgettable year and excited about the future we’re building together.”
According to the mayor’s office, this year’s SDCC is expected to have over 135,000 attendees over four days and to bring in over $160 million in direct and indirect spending, including $95 million spent at local hotels, restaurants, and other businesses. The event also puts $3 million in hotel and sales taxes into the city’s coffers.
Although Comic-Con attendees are expected to book over 61,000 hotel room nights for the event, ICv2 columnist Rob Salkowitz noted in April that hotel rooms were scarcer and more expensive in 2026 than ever before (see “Hotelpocalypse”).
