Anime Expo: Dark Horse Announces 'Gantz Deluxe'

Dark Horse Comics had four announcements for manga fans at Anime Expo 2026.

Gantz Deluxe Edition presents Hiroya Oku’s sci-fi horror tale in a format geared for collectors and serious fans.  The oversized, 9″ x 12″ hardcover will include three of the regular volumes, with over 600 pages of content inside a faux leather cover with silver foil, matte black sprayed edges, and a ribbon bookmark.  Gantz is 37 volumes long, and in 2025, Dark Horse picked up the spinoff Gantz G as a three-in-one omnibus (see “Dark Horse to Publish ‘Gantz: G’ Omnibus”).  The first volume of Gantz Deluxe Edition will go on sale on April 6, 2027, with an MSRP of $54.99.

H.P. Lovecraft’s The Haunter of the Dark, by Gou Tanabe, continues Dark Horse’s Lovecraft line with Tanabe’s adaptation of his final work, the story of a horror writer who is found dead, apparently struck by lightning through a closed window, and leaves behind a diary filled with wild imaginings.  Tanabe’s adaptations have been reliable best-sellers for Dark Horse, and his The Call of Cthulhu was one of only two horror manga to appear in both the BookScan and ComicHub best-seller lists in 2024-25 (see “Horror Graphic Novels Thrive in Direct Market”).  Haunter of the Dark will be released as a paperback on April 27, 2027, with an MSRP of $14.99.

The Sky is but One Roof of the World, by Kenji Tsuruta, is the latest atmospheric slice-of-life manga from the creator of Wandering Island, Captain Momo’s Secret Base, and Forget-Me-Not (see “Dark Horse License ‘Forget-Me-Not’”).  The new manga follows the languid adventures of Cerezo Shitodoha, the chief of a sleepy island airport, who spends her time catching rays on the seldom-used runway and hanging out at the airport bar but is ready to jump into action when duty calls, including handling the emergency landing of a jumbo jet.  The first volume will go on sale on April 6, 2027, with an MSRP of $17.99.

Deva Zan (Second Edition), by Yoshitaka Amano, brings back the Final Fantasy designer’s sci-fi novel, featuring 200 painted illustrations, with new cover art.  Amano is the writer of the Vampire Hunter D novels (see “‘Vampire Hunter D’ Omnibus Editions”) and a cover artist for DC’s Sandman Universe (see “‘Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country’”).
