Invincible and its spinoffs, DC Comics’ Absolute and Compact Comics titles, and Jujutsu Kaisen are the Big Three on this month’s charts of the Top 20 best-selling Adult graphic novels according to Circana BookScan data for May 2026 (5/3/2026 – 5/30/2026) provided to ICv2.
The webtoon adaptation of Dungeon Crawler Carl tops the Author chart, which is not at all surprising as it was number 2 on the Adult chart (see “May 2026 Circana BookScan“). However, Invincible wins the prize for most volumes, with 10 volumes of that series and spinoff titles, meaning the Author chart is dominated by the superhero genre. There are five volumes of manhwa (three of Solo Leveling and two volumes of other series), and three Author Chart stalwarts, Vol. 1 of The Boys, They Called Us Enemy, and Vol. 1 of Monsters We Make.
It’s worth noting that there are only three May releases on the Author chart, Dungeon Crawler Carl and the two manhwa, and only one other 2026 title, Vol. 15 of Solo Leveling. Invincible may be surging right now, but the category is getting a bit stale.

DC Comics retains a firm grip on the Superhero chart, with 16 of the 20 titles, the same as last month. Seven of these are the low-priced Compact Comics, and all but one of the rest are Absolute titles. All three of Marvel Comics’ Top 20 books are Premier Collections, a format similar to Compact Comics. It’s clear that this is the way the market is going, at least in bookstores. The venerable hardcover TMNT: The Last Ronin comes in at number 20, the sole non-DC/Marvel title.

For the second month in a row, there are nine volumes of Jujutsu Kaisen in the Top 20, continuing its reign as the most popular manga of the moment. The manga series ended with Vol. 30, but there’s at least one more season of the anime yet to come, so we haven’t seen the last of JJK yet.
We’re also seeing more anime spillover with three volumes of Witch Hat Atelier (including the deluxe Grimoire Edition), two of The Summer Hikaru Died, and one of Gachiakuta.
