The adaptation of a best-selling novel and series that have been adapted into animation dominate the list of the Top 20 best-selling Adult graphic novels according to Circana (formerly NPD) BookScan data for May 2026 (5/3/26 – 5/30/26) provided to ICv2.
Vol. 29 of Jujutsu Kaisen, which has been the top seller for the past three months, was displaced in May by… Vol. 30 of Jujutsu Kaisen. Vol. 29 remains on the chart, at number 3, and Vol. 1 is at number 4, which means people are still diving into this blockbuster series. Vols. 0, 26, and 28 are further down the chart. The bad news here is that Vol. 30 is the final volume of the series, but the good news is that VIZ Media just licensed a spinoff (see “‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Spinoff”).
The first volume of the Dungeon Crawler Carl graphic novel is at number 2; this is the webtoon adaptation of the original novel, not the new story that Vault Comics raised $2.6 million for on Backerkit (see “Two Different ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ Graphic Novels on the Way“). Meanwhile, the RPG based on the novel has done even better (see “‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ Rolls Past $13.29 Million”), so it’s safe to say that DCC is a hot property.
The launch of the Witch Hat Atelier anime has definitely spurred interest in that series, and it appears in two spots on the chart: The deluxe Grimoire Edition of the first three volumes at number 5 (see “‘Witch Hat Atelier’ Premium Edition”), and the regular edition at number 8. With four volumes of Invincible and two of The Summer Hikaru Died on the chart, it’s clear that animation is still a big motivator for book sales. But a best-selling prose novel doesn’t hurt either.
