Dark Horse Comics is launching a new series of archival black and white editions of classic Marvel stories with Marvel Black & White: Barry Windsor-Smith’s Weapon X. The new editions will present classic Marvel Comics stories as oversized, 9″ x 12″ hardcovers, showcasing the line art in a new way. Weapon X was originally serialized in Marvel Comics Presents #72–#84 and tells the story of Wolverine’s transition from the human Logan to a troubled superhero. The book includes additional material by Windsor-Smith from The Uncanny X-Men #205 and #214 as well as archival materials, scans of original artwork, and an essay by comics historians Chris Ryall and John Lind. The 192-page hardcover will go on sale in bookstores and comic shops on November 24, 2026, with an MSRP of $60.
Fantagraphics is collecting more of Windsor-Smith’s Marvel work (see “Fantagraphics to Collect Barry Windsor-Smith’s Marvel Work in Three Volumes“).
