Ablaze to Publish 'The Lycan' by 'Punisher' Actor Thomas Jane

Eisner-Nominated Digital Comic Is First Release from Jane’s Renegade Entertainment

Ablaze will publish a print edition the Eisner-nominated digital comic The Lycan, which was previously released on ComiXology Originals. Based on a story by actor Thomas Jane, who portrayed Frank Castle in the 2004 film The Punisher, and writer/producer David James Kelly, scripted by The Unwritten writer Mike Carey, with art by Diego Yapur and colors by D.C. Alonso, the comic is the first release from Jane’s production label Renegade Entertainment.

Ablaze will release The Lycan as three double-sized issues, slated for September, October, and November 2026, then collect them in a trade paperback, with bonus material, for release in February 2027. This will be the first time the series appears in print.

The story is set in 1777 and centers on a group of big game hunters who are shipwrecked and stranded on an island on their return trip from a successful hunt. In order to get provisions and repair their ship, they make a deal with the ruler of the island to hunt down the Berserking Beasts that have been devouring his subjects. Ablaze publisher Rich Young described it as “a haunting gothic horror story with werewolves.”

The Lycan is a passion project of mine that had a heartbreaking false start over a decade ago and I put it away in a drawer,” Jane said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “If it wasn’t for my partner Courtney Penn at Renegade, that’s where it would remain today.”

The series is published digitally by ComiXology and has been nominated for the 2026 Eisner Award for Best Digital Comic. It was slated to be published by Aftershock in 2022 (see “Aftershock Comics and Thomas Jane’s Renegade Entertainment Reveal ‘Lycan’”), but that publisher ran into financial difficulties that year (see “Aftershock Emerges from Chapter 11 Bankruptcy”).
