Portal Games Heads 'Abroad'

In September, Portal Games and 1 More Time Games will release the English version of Abroad, a travel-themed game from the designers of Landmarks Rodrigo Rego and Danilo Valente, into the U.S. market following a premier at Gen Con.

In Abroad, players try to prove that they deserve to be a new travel guide publisher by completing the best possible four-week tour of Europe, attending festivals, meeting the locals, and collecting postcards.  In the game, they must manage not only their time, but also their funds and “excitement” as they schedule their tour using trains and planes and trying to complete their own personal “Bucket List” goals.

Over four rounds representing a week each, players commit their days to travelling between regions of Europe, managing their resources, or “writing” about their activities by playing cards and “spending” the days required for that activity.  Bonuses are awarded if they can complete the goals on their postcards before the end of the game.

The game includes 291 cards, 140 planning discs, 80 tiles, 144 tokens, 6 pawns, 5 player boards, and the main map board.  The game supports one to five players, with solo rules included, ages 12 and up.  Games take about an hour and a half to play. MSRP is $69.95.

Last autumn, Portal launched the art-themed board game Bohemians (see “Seek Muses in ‘Bohemians’”).
