Rocketship to Publish 'Frostpunk 1886' Graphic Novel

Rocketship Entertainment has announced it will publish Frostpunk 1886, a graphic novel based on the post-apocalyptic city-building video game Frostpunk, which was first released in 2018 and is being remade as Frostpunk 1886, set for release in 2027.

The game is set in a fictional version of the year 1886, when a climate anomaly causes snowstorms and cold weather in the summer and crops fail, and challenges players to build a generator to keep the population safe and warm.  The creative team for the graphic novel will be writer Justin Jordan, whose credits include Green Lantern, The Strange Talent of Luther Strode, and Oni Press’s EC Comics (see “Oni Press Expands EC Comics Line“), and artist Ryan Benjamin (Uncanny X-Men, Spawn, Batman Beyond).  The book will be crowdfunded on Kickstarter in summer 2026 and subsequently distributed to retailers via Lunar Distribution and to bookstores via Simon & Schuster.

Frostpunk is one of the most morally complex worlds in gaming, a place where survival and humanity are always in direct conflict” Rocketship CEO and Publisher Tom Akel said in a statement accompanying the announcement.  “Justin Jordan and Ryan Benjamin are exactly the team to put that on the page.”

“This universe has always held more stories than we could tell in games alone,” said Frostpunk 2 Game Co-Director and Design Director Jakub Stokalski.  “When we launched our indie city-builder back in 2018, we never imagined the IP would grow like this – but the frost keeps spreading.”

Frostpunk has also been adapted into a board game (see “‘Frost Punk: The Board Game’ Barrels Toward Retail” and also “Review: ‘Frostpunk: The Board Game”).
