Skybound and Image Comics will commemorate the 40th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie by collecting two adaptations in a single hardcover volume for the first time ever. The first adaptation was a three-issue miniseries published by Marvel Comics in 1986, the same year the animated film was released. The second, The Transformers: The Animated Movie, was a four-issue miniseries published by IDW Publishing in 2006. The Transformers: The Movie Deluxe Edition includes work by writers Ralph Macchio and Bob Budiansky and artists Don Perlin, Ian Akin, Brian Garvey, and Don Figueroa. The hardcover will have a new cover by Batman: White Knight artist Sean Murphy and will be released in comic shops on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, and in bookstores on September 8. MSRP is $34.99.
Skybound and Hasbro, the parent company of the Transformers, are partnering on a new Energon Universe animated series based on the G.I. JOE, Transformers, and Void Rivals comics (see “‘Energon Universe’ Series”).
