Mad Cave Studios has announced a new collaboration with Lucasfilm Publishing to publish original middle-grade Star Wars graphic novels under its all-ages Papercutz imprint.
In separate news, former Dark Horse Vice President-Marketing Cara O’Neil, who left the company in November (see “Dark Horse CEO Mike Richardson Responds to Questions”) has joined Mad Cave as Director of Marketing.
Mad Cave plans to release two Star Wars graphic novels in Fall 2026: Star Wars: Smugglers and Scoundrels—The Race for Jabba’s Bounty, by writer Cavan Scott and artist Christian Colbert, which will be released on September 15, and Star Wars: Tales from the Outer Rim—The Legend of Beggar’s Canyon, by writer Greg Pak and artist Brent Schoonover, slated for October 13. Scott and Pak have written other Star Wars comics, while Colbert and Schoonver are new to the franchise.
“These will be exciting, fun, and age-appropriate stories that span all eras of Star Wars storytelling,” Michael Siglain, Creative Director of Lucasfilm Publishing, said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “They’ll be specifically created for a middle-grade audience and will embrace the medium to allow us to do things that are only possible in comics.”
This is Mad Cave’s first foray into Star Wars territory. Dark Horse began publishing Star Wars comics in 1991, and Marvel Comics took over in 2014, after parent company Disney acquired Lucasfilm (see “Marvel Gets Star Wars”). Dark Horse returned to the franchise in 2022 for young-readers titles (see “Dark Horse to Publish All-Ages Star Wars Comics and Graphic Novels”) and has been publishing some adult Star Wars content as well (see “‘Clone Wars’ Bad Batch Get Their First Solo Series”). Their website indicates that they have more Star Wars comics coming out in 2026.
