Fantagraphics will publish a three-volume collection of artist Barry Windsor-Smith’s Marvel work in what appears to be the first volume of a new series of Marvel Comics reprints. The Marvel Creator Collection No. 1: “Back to the Savage Land” Barry Windsor-Smith at Marvel Vol. 1 will put the spotlight on Windsor-Smith’s earliest work, before he began drawing Conan the Barbarian, with runs on The Avengers, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange as well as individual stories from Chamber of Darkness, Tower of Shadows, and Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. The volume also includes his collaboration with writer Gerry Conway on a fantasy tale from Ka-Zar’s Savage Land.
The Marvel Creator Collection No. 1: “Back to the Savage Land” Barry Windsor-Smith at Marvel Vol. 1 will be a 352-page, full color hardcover with an 8.8″ x 11.3″ trim size and will go on sale on April 28, 2026, with an MSRP of $49.99.
Fantagraphics has been publishing collections of early Marvel comics, starting with the Atlas Comics Library (see “Fantagraphics to Collect Marvel’s Pre-Code Atlas Comics“); they are also publishing Lost Marvels, featuring early Marvel comics that have not been previously collected.
