Santa is on his way, and so is more Hollywood news. Time for another round-up!
Chris Evans will be back as Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) in the new Avengers: Doomsday movie, according to Variety. Evans’ return was confirmed in a teaser for the movie that was part of screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash (see “‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’“). The trailer also reveals that Steve Rogers has a child in the new movie.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired Peanuts Holdings LLC. The estimated $457 million deal allows Sony to indirectly purchase 41% in Peanuts Holdings LLC. through Canadian media company WildBrain. The result of this transaction will give Sony Music Entertainment (Japan), who owns 39% of Peanuts Holdings LLC, and Sony Pictures Entertainment a combined 80% control of the company while the Schultz family still retains 20% of the company. Prior to WildBrain and Sony Music, the 80% interest in the company was owned by DHX Media (see “Geek M&A Round-Up“) who bought it in 2017.
The Warner Bros. Board of Directors rejected Paramount Skydance’s $30 per share hostile bid for their company. In a letter to shareholders, they declared the terms of the proposed merger with Netflix “superior,” (see “Netflix“) and informed the shareholders that the Paramount offer provides “inadequate value and imposes numerous, significant risks and costs to WBD.” The sales of Warner Bros. has been ongoing since late October 2025 (see “Sale Just Got a Whole Lot Messier“).
Apple TV will further expand Legendary’s Monsterverse by developing a prequel series to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The prequel series will star Wyatt Russell as a young Col. Lee Shaw, which he played in both shows (see “Monsterverse“). Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will head to streaming on February 27, 2026 (see teaser below).
Prime Video released a trailer for Young Sherlock (see below). This Guy Ritchie series follows the famous detective as a young man as he unravels a globe-trotting conspiracy. It will begin streaming on March 4, 2026.
Gil Gerard passed away on December 16, 2025. Gerard is best known as the actor who portrayed Buck Rogers in the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century television series from 1979 (see “‘Buck Rogers’“). He was 82 years old.Source: ICv2
