It’s Labor Day and some tidbits of showbiz news have hit the wire. Time for a round-up!
A slow Labor Day weekend has led to a slightly down box office for the summer season, according to Deadline. Last year, the summer season raked in $3.677 billion at the box office, but in 2025, that number ended down about -0.2% to 3.670 billion. Weapons, The Roses, and Caught Stealing weren’t enough to push the box office over the line this weekend. Further down the box office list, Cineverse’s Toxic Avenger only opened at $2.2 million for the weekend, despite having some promotion (see “Toxic Avenger Looms Large This Summer“).
Disney announced Hexed, a new animated feature film, at Destination D23. The film will follow the story of a teenage boy and his mother as they explore a secret world of magic. It will hit theaters in Fall 2026 (see “Best in Shows — 2026“).
Lucasfilm has added new cast members to Star Wars: Starfighter, according to Variety. Amy Adams and Aaron Pierre will join Ryan Gosling and Matt Smith to star in this Shawn Levy film (see “‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ Casting“).
Crunchyroll will begin streaming Spy x Family Season 3 (see “‘Spy x Family’“) on October 4, 2025. The Forgers are once again back in action for all-new episodes filled with wacky disguises, espionage, and fun; Toho Animation has released a trailer for the season (see below).
Crunchyroll released a trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 (see below). The newest season in the popular anime will exclusively stream on Crunchyroll (see “Acquires Many “), starting in January 2026.
Shout! Studios released an official trailer for Deathstalker (see below). Deathstalker is tied to a graphic novel published by Vault Comics that featured Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, and was based on a story by Steven Kosanski, the director of the new film (see “Deathstalker“).
