Skybound has announced its plans for The Walking Dead as the series nears its 20th anniversary in October 2023 and the deluxe edition nears issue #75. The publisher has been reissuing the comic, which was originally mostly black and white, as the full-color The Walking Dead Deluxe, with colors by Dave McCaig (see “Image to Launch ‘The Walking Dead Deluxe’”). For the month of October, Skybound will publish issues #72-75 weekly, with increasing numbers of variant covers for each issue. In addition, they will publish a special newsprint edition of The Walking Dead Deluxe #1, also in full color. The release schedule will be:
- October 4: The Walking Dead Deluxe #72 with cover A by David Finch and Dave McCaig, cover B by Charlie Adlard and McCaig, and a connecting cover C by Conor Hughes
- October 11: The Walking Dead Deluxe #73, with cover A by Finch and McCaig, cover B by Adlard and McCaig, and connecting cover C by J.H. Williams III
- October 11: The Walking Dead Deluxe #1 (Newsprint Edition) with cover A by Finch and McCaig
- October 18: The Walking Dead Deluxe #74 with cover A by Finch and McCaig, cover B by Adlard and McCaig, connecting cover C by J.H. Williams III, and cover D by Julian Totino Tedesco
- October 25: The Walking Dead Deluxe #75 with cover A by Finch and McCaig, cover B by Adlard and McCaig, cover C by J.H. Williams III, cover D by Julian Totino Tedesco, cover E by Joe Quesada and Richard Isanove, and cover F by Greg Capullo and Dave McCaig
The Walking Dead was created by Robert Kirkman (writer) and Tony Moore (the artist for the first 6 issues) , and Charlie Adlard was the interior artist for most of the series, including issues #72-75.
