‘Spider-Man’ Continues Boffo Run; ‘The Legend of Zelda’ and ‘X-Men’ Casting; ‘Warhammer’ Animated Series; ‘X-Files’ Trailer; VIZ and Gotham Group Team Up for ‘RWBY’

The midsummer heat continues on, and so does the stream of hot Hollywood news.  Time for another round-up!

Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day continued its phenomenal box office run, according to Deadline After a colossal opening weekend box office run (see “Boffo“), this movie is headed for the highest-grossing 10-day domestic total in history at $653 million, passing Avengers: Endgame’s 10-day total of $621.2 million.

Sony Pictures and Nintendo added new cast to The Legend of Zelda movie, according to Deadline The new cast includes Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf, Dichen Lachman as Impa, and Yvonne Strahovski as a queen character.  Actor Sam Neil, who passed away recently, is also slated to appear in the film.  This movie hits theaters on April 30, 2027 (see “Release Moved Up“).

Marvel Studios is in talks with Kit Connor to play Cyclops in their X-Men reboot, according to Variety Connor is best-known for his role in Heartstopper (see “‘Heartstopper’ Trailers“).  Marvel also recently cast Samara Weaving as Emma Frost (see “‘X-Men’ Reboot Casting“). 

Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Warhammer 40,000 animated series, according to Variety Henry Cavil, who is already working on a Warhammer 40,000 live action series for Amazon (see “‘Warhammer 40,000’“), will executive produce the new series.

Hulu released a new trailer for X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankshteyn (see below).  This is movie is Chris Carter’s director’s cut of the 2008 feature The X-Files: I Want to Believe, which restores the horror elements that were deleted from the original release.  It will hit streaming on Disney+ and Hulu on August 14, 2026. Hulu has also greenlit a new X-Files pilot (see “‘X-Files’ Pilot“).

VIZ Media has partnered with The Gotham Group to develop film and television adaptations of VIZ IPs.  The IPs up for development include titles from the VIZ Originals graphic novel line and the RWBY franchise that it acquired from Rooster Teeth in 2024 (see “VIZ Acquires ‘RWBY’“).  Gotham Group worked on Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Maze Runner, and more.Source: ICv2
