Cephalofair Games is producing Mercenaries Wanted, a card-drafting game set in the world of Gloomhaven, scheduled to release on December 4.   A preview of the game was offered by Cephalofair at last week’s Gen Con.

Created by Dennis Vogele, one of the developers behind Frosthaven and Gloomhaven’s second edition, Mercenaries Wanted imagines the players as captains of mercenary companies operating in the iconic city.  In order to complete jobs, they must draft teams of soldiers-of-fortune and supply them with the right equipment to accomplish their mission and bring back the gold.  Each mercenary is a unique character with their own abilities, rewarding the captains who can recruit the team best suited for the job.

After each job, players can decide which mercenaries to retain, how to promote them within their company, and prep for the next contract.  After the jobs dry up, the companies compete in one of nine possible end-game tournaments to earn bonus points for the final scoring.

Mercenaries Wanted comes with 61 mercenary cards, 48 item cards, 32 job cards, 8 tournament cards, 6 player mats, tokens, and a scoreboard, with artwork by Yanis Cardin, Phan Tuan Dat, Alexandr Elichev, and Phil Stone.  The game is intended for up to six players, ages fourteen and up.

Mercenaries were also the theme for a line of expansion sets for Gloomhaven released last year (see “Cephalofair Announces ‘Gloomhaven:  Mercenary Packs’“).
