The Battle of the Bulge was Germany’s last-ditch effort to break out of the ever-tightening ring of Allied forces around them. It was desperate fighting in the dead cold. And if you’re looking to recreate those battles on your tabletops, Battlefront has some new Flames of War American releases to help.
M18 Tank Destroyer Platoon (Plastic) (UBX93)
The 705th Tank Destroyer Battalion is one of the first equipped with the new M18 Hellcat tank destroyer. Its small profile and powerful gun make it a quick success. The M18 was purpose-built for the TD men, taking on-board feedback in the field, designed with a unique suspension system and stripped down to only the minimum armour needed to stop rifle fire.
M24 Chaffee Tank Platoon (Plastic) (UBX94)
The new M24 Chaffee is an excellent replacement for the M5A1 Stuart. It combines a powerful 75mm gun with the speed of a light tank, making it a deadly new weapon in the Arsenal of Freedom.
M26 Pershing Tank Platoon (Plastic) (UBX90)
The T26/M26 Pershing was the outcome of a series of prototype designs for replacing the M4 Sherman. The M26 was a 42-tonne vehicle, armed with an M3 90mm L/50 gun, the same that equipped the M36 Tank Destroyer.
M36 or M10 Tank Destroyer Platoon (Plastic) (UBX89)
As German tanks became harder to deal with, the tank destroyer arm decided to up-gun their M10s with the M3 90mm anti-aircraft gun. A larger turret was designed to hold the new weapon. The new vehicle was designated the M36 90mm GMC.
M15 & M16 AAA Platoon (Plastic) (UBX87)
When enemy air is on the prowl, use the ‘Triple A’ platoon to guard your valuable guns and positions. Even when aircraft is not a threat, the anti-aircraft artillery can saturate enemy strongpoints and pin down the enemy with a tremendous amount of fire.
T27 Xylophone Rocket Launcher Battery (US145)
The 2nd Infantry Division first used the T27 4.5” (114mm) Xylophone rocket launcher in August 1944. They rated them poorly because they were not effective as single launchers. They are now paired up and placed on the back of a 2½-ton truck for better mobility and stronger bombardments.
