Clover Press will take over the Marvel Masterworks reprint line, which went on hiatus in 2025. Clover will crowdfund the volumes on Kickstarter, and the first four titles will be Uncanny X-Men, Super-Villain Team-Up Vol. 1, the last volume of Walter Simonson’s run on The Mighty Thor, and the end of Tomb of Dracula.

“[Marvel has] done 389 volumes over the last 20+ years,” Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz said at the ComicsPRO Retailer Day at San Diego Comic-Con. “We are going to be continuing the legacy numbering so that you can keep your hardcore reader, and we’ll be continuing the trade dress that Marvel established 20 plus years ago. But we’ll also be introducing a new trade dress coming soon, and this will be a great jump-on point for your customers. If a customer had taken a look at your line and said, ‘There’s no way I can start collecting a hardcover line that has 389 volumes,’ this is a great way for them to jump on.”

Marvel began reprinting out-of-print Masterworks titles in 2022 (see “Marvel’s First ‘Remasterworks’ Titles”) but suspended the program in 2025. At that time, Marvel SVP of Publishing Tom Brevoort said on his Substack that “sales on those volumes had dropped to the point where they were no longer financially viable. So while I like the format, if the audience for the books isn’t there, then they’re going to go on hiatus at least.”

“Masterworks fits in perfectly with Clover Press’s line of higher end archival books,” Kanalz told ICv2. “We love making them and are excited by what we can add to the Marvel Masterworks legacy.”
