On the second day of San Diego Comic-Con, DC announced five new Next Level titles and a comic that juxtaposes Batman and Absolute Batman.
DC gave details on two new Next Level series, both of which have a horror bent. The Demon, written and drawn by James Harren and colored by Dave Stewart, follows Jason Blood, the shattered human to whom The Demon is bound, as he struggles to protect the world from monsters. The first issue will be released on October 7, 2026, with a main cover by Harren and variants by Daniel Warren Jordan, Michael Walsh, Hayden Sherman, and John McCrea.
The other Next Level title, Jonah Hex and the Shadow of Death, written and drawn by Michael Walsh, will be a six-issue folk-horror series, also launching on October 7, and the first issue will have a main cover by Walsh and variant covers by Brian Bolland, Julian Totino Tedesco, Javier Rodríguez (1:25), and Hayden Sherman.
DC also announced three more Next Level series at the Next Level panel, with teaser images but no creator information: Vixen, Static, and Shadow of the Bat.
In a separate announcement, DC unveiled Batman of Two Worlds #1, a Batman Day 2026 one-shot containing two new stories, a Batman story by writer Matt Fraction and artist Javi Fernández and an Absolute Batman tale by writer Scott Snyder and artist Nick Derington.
“You have two different looks at Batman,” Fraction said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “The moral structures, the ethical structures, the political structures. A chance to put them side by side and see the similarities and differences.”
Batman of Two Worlds #1 will be available exclusively on Batman Day, September 19, 2026. The cover is by Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta, and Frank Martin.
DC announced three team-focused Next Level titles in June 2026 (see “Superhero Teams Take the Lead in DC Next Level Series”).
