‘The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe’ #1 One-Shot Celebrates 50 years of ‘The Muppet Show’

Marvel Comics will publish The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1, a new one shot comic book, on September 23, 2026.

The new one-shot follows up the Muppets most recent foray into the Marvel Universe, last year’s Muppets Marvel variant covers (see “‘Muppets’ Variant Covers” and also, “More Marvel’s ‘Muppets’ Variant Covers“).  The Muppets first appeared Marvel Comics on the cover of Marvel Comics Super Special #32, promoting their 1984 film The Muppets Take Manhatten, and later, Star Comics (a Marvel imprint) released a Muppet Babies comics series.  The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1 will be the very first time Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang appear alongside Marvel superheroes in a story.

To make this book come to life, Marvel tapped Eisner-winning writer Chip Zdarsky (see “Eisner Awards 2023“) as well as artist Pete Woods to assemble the lead story. The Muppet/Marvel crossover tales contained in this book are as follows:

  • Chip Zdarsky and Pete Woods tell a story about Rowlf the Dog being kidnapped by Mojo to help launch a new streaming service. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, Emma Frost and others team up to save the day.
  • Kyle Starks and Mike Henderson delves into the technology of Muppets Labs as  Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker as they welcome Bruce Banner and Hank Pym to do an experiment involving Gamma Rays and Pym Particles.
  • Ashley Allen and Paco Medina offer up a tale where Clea falls ill from a mystical virus and Doctor Strange needs to look to none other than the Swedish Chef for a cure.
  • MacKenzie Cadenhead and David Baldeon send readers on trip through the galaxy with a Pigs in Space tale. Captain Link Hogthrob, First Mate Piggy, and Dr. Julius Strangepork have a run-in with Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

The main cover for the book was rendered by Nick Bradshaw and this one shot showcases variant covers by Humberto Ramos, Matteo Lolli, and Ron Lim.
