Marvel Comics plans a giant-sized one-shot special issue celebrating the 60th anniversary of Mary Jane Watson, who first showed her face in Amazing Spider-Man #42 in November 1966 (she was hidden behind a plant in her earlier appearance in ASM #25). The special issue, Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1, will include stories spanning the different eras of Mary Jane by writers J.M. DeMatteis, J. Michael Straczynski, Ann Nocenti, and Ashley Allen and artists Phil Noto, Alina Erofeeva, Andrea Broccardo, and Luigi Zagaria. It will go on sale on August 5, 2026, with covers by Jim Cheung and David Nakayama, with the Nakayama cover available with and without trade dress.
“Mary Jane has had one heck of a journey from supporting character in a love-triangle all the way to super hero,” said editor Nick Lowe in a statement accompanying the announcement. “It’s super rare for a supporting character to become a main character, but Ms. Watson is one of those rare breeds and we’re all lucky to be a part of her story!”
Watson will be one of the characters featured in the Queen in Black event, which launches this summer (see “Marvel Announces ‘Queen in Black’ with Blind Bag Program“).
