Rocketship Entertainment and Legendary Comics will collaborate on two new print editions of webcomics produced by Legendary that currently appear on the WEBTOON platform: Firebrand: The Initiation of Natali Presano,by writers Jessica Chobot and Erika Lewis and artist Claudia Aguirre, and ROB, by writer Richard Dinnick and artists Magda Price and Miguel Sepulveda. Both will include deluxe editions and will be crowdfunded on Kickstarter later this year. All Rocketship Kickstarter campaigns include a retailer tier.
Firebrand: The Initiation of Natali Presano, the story of a witch caught between modern living and an ancient evil, launched in 2016 (see “‘Firebrand’“) and ran until 2019. It has 5 million views and over 165,000 followers on WEBTOON, and Legendary published the first volume in print in 2019. The series ran for 57 episodes, and Rocketship will collect the entire run of the comic in a single, 350-page hardcover omnibus.
“Firebrand has always been about reclaiming power, and now, Natali and the rest of her team are getting the bold, definitive edition they deserve,” Lewis and Chobot said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
ROB, a sci-fi imagining of the Robin Hood legend, launched in 2021 and ran for 28 episodes on WEBTOON, where it has over 540,000 views and 54,000 followers. Rocketship will collect the entire series as both a deluxe hardcover and a premium trade paperback.
“[ROB] was initially conceived as a physical graphic novel, so it will be wonderful to see it become something readers can hold in their hands,” said Dinnick, who is also the writer of Legendary’s Lost in Space miniseries (see “‘Lost in Space’ Returns to Comics”).
“Firebrand and ROB were our first two digital comics ever produced at Legendary Comics,” said Legendary SVP and Publisher Robert Napton. “With Firebrand, Jessica and Erika found a fresh supernatural mythology and wove the tale with great modern characters. With ROB, Richard Dinnick took the classic mythos and set it in an alternate world both familiar and unknown.”
Rocketship and Legendary have already collaborated on a number of projects, including Dune: The Official Movie Graphic Novel, Monarch: The Lost Adventures, Pacific Rim: Final Breach (see “‘Pacific Rim’ Kickstarter“), and Toxic Avenger (see “Toxic Avenger Looms Large This Summer“).
