'Monopoly' Takes on 'Fourth Wing'

Hasbro has announced two Monopoly-based games featuring licensed material from the Fourth Wing novel by Rebecca Yarros: Monopoly: Fourth Wing and Monopoly Deal: Fourth Wing.  Both games will release on July 15.

Fourth Wing is the first book in Yarros’ adult romance Empyrean series.  It tells the story of Violet Sorrengail, a dragon rider from the Basgiath War College who overcomes her chronic illness to bond with dragons, survive challenges and adventures, and find romance.

Monopoly: Fourth Wing adds elements from the world of Empyrean to the classic boardgame of property trading.  Players bond with one of the seven colorful metal dragon pawns and travel around the board visiting locations in Navarre, building outposts and strongholds, and collecting Blades from the other riders, trying to be the last one to hold any Blades.

The game is packaged in a gold-foiled slipcase box designed with a book-like appearance suitable for display, and includes a forward written by Yarros and upgraded components.  The traditional “Chance” and “Community Chest” cards have been replaced with the “Dragon Rider’s Codex” and “Book of Brennan,” which explore some of the more mature themes included in the books, leading to a recommended age of 17 and up.  Monopoly: Fourth Wing is intended for two to six players.  MSRP $39.99.

Monopoly Deal: Fourth Wing builds on the Monopoly Deal card game, offering a shorter playing time.  Players use their unique special ability and action cards inspired by events in the book to help them gather Blades and summon and swap properties as they try to collect complete sets.  It comes packaged in a metal tin.  This game does not feature the more mature elements from the books, and is suitable for ages eight and up.  Plays with two to five players.  MSRP $14.99.

In August, Hasbro will release a version of Monopoly featuring the KPop Demon Hunters (see “‘Monopoly’ Jams to ‘KPop Demon Hunters’“)
