Comics writer and historian Mark Evanier revealed this week that multiple pieces of original comics art have been stolen from his collection. He announced the news on his blog, News from ME, where he said, “what really hurts is that I know who did it and it was someone I trusted a lot and not for a short time.” The stolen items include a Thor story from Journey Into Mystery #98, autographed to Evanier by Don Heck; two pages from Spider-Woman #8 that feature a character named “Marcus Evanier”; and a page from What If? #7 signed “For Mark and all his help” by Rick Hoberg. Other stolen pieces are signed or autographed by Carmen Infantino, Jack Kirby, and John Byrne.
Evanier is asking anyone involved in the original comics art market to download the list of stolen items and share the link with others.
Insight Studios creators Marc Hempel and Mark Wheatley also recently announced that artwork stolen from them was being marketed to collectors (see “New Report of Stolen ‘Jonny Quest’ Artwork Being Marketed Online”).
