Pantheon Books will release Hotel and Farm, a new graphic novel by famed cartoonist Ben Katchor, this fall. The graphic novel is a collection of 140 stories from hotel and farm cultures, told by a group of story-addicts lingering after dinner. Hotel stories include an exploration of miniature shampoo containers as erotic objects, life between international time zones, dangers of glossy magazines, and petty crime in hotel lobbies. Farm stories include narratives about twice-killing meat, exotic produce, whitewashing trees, and fruit arrangement as art form.
The most recent comic work from Katchor, one of a small handful of comic creators to receive a MacArthur Fellowship, was The Dairy Restaurant (2020). Prior works include Hand-Drying in America, The Cardboard Valise, Julius Knipl, Real Estate Photographer: The Beauty Supply District, and Cheap Novelties: The Pleasures of Urban Decay (see “New from Katchor“).
The 176-page, 10-3/4 x 8-1/4-inch volume will be released on October 6 at $32 MSRP.
