'M1: Monster Racing League,' New Series with Jae Lee Art

M1: Monster League, a new comic series by artist Jae Lee, colorist June Chung, and the father-daughter writing team of Robert and Lily Windom has an animated series in development prior to the comic’s release. M1: Monster Racing, a new ongoing series from Image Comics, stars 17-year-old Dev, who gets involved with the underground street-racing scene when she moves to a near-future version of Tokyo.

Writer and producer Jeffrey M. Howard, writer for the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur animated series, is working on an animated version of the series.

The first issue will be released on June 10, 2026, with a main cover, 1:25 incentive cover, and 1:50 black and white cover by Lee and an open to order variant by Jon J. Muth.

M1: Monster Racing League is high-stakes monster racing meets K-pop—so much energy, style, and pressure—and the characters are all trying to figure out who they are,” Lily Windom said in a statement accompanying the announcement.  “I think teens will love it because it’s super fast-paced and exciting but also really real about friendship, competition, and finding where you belong.”

Lee and Robert Windom previously teamed up with co-writer Kelvin Mao for the Image limited series Seven Sons (see “Artist Jae Lee to Draw High-Stakes Thriller“), while the Windoms are the co-creators of Family Time, published by Ablaze in 2023, when Lily was just 11.  Lee did the cover for that original graphic novel.  Windom is also the executive producer of the documentary Dave Stevens: Drawn to Perfection.
