Sony Pictures plans will reboot the live-action Spider-Man movie universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sony Pictures chairman and CEO Tom Rothman confirmed that a reboot of the extended universe with new people is in the works after the franchise’s recent box office failures including Kraven (see “‘Kraven the Hunter’ Bombs“), Morbius, and Madame Web, in an interview on The Town podcast. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026 (see “Best in Shows — 2026“).
Hulu has greenlit a new X-Files pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pilot will be written and directed by Ryan Coogler (see “Marvel’s ‘Ironheart’“), and Danielle Deadwyler has been cast as one of the co-leads.
Paramount is developing scripts for two G.I. Joe movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The studio has hired Max Landis to create a treatment for a feature film for the franchise, and Danny McBride to work on an entirely separate script for a different G.I. Joe movie. In 2024, Paramount announced a G.I. Joe–Transformers crossover film project (see “Transformers – G.I. Joe “).
K-Pop Demon Hunters has joined the Criterion Collection, according to Variety. The mission of the Criterion Collection is to release important classic and contemporary works around the world in high-quality versions. Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters captured the pop culture zeitgeist in 2025 (see “Macy’s Parade“) and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
No Man’s Land has been optioned by A/Vantage Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No Man’s Land, a limited comic series by Szymon Kudranski, was published by Image Comics in 2025 and tells the tale of murder investigation on the Diomede Islands in 1963.
Warner Bros. released a new trailer for Mortal Kombat II (see below). This movie will hit theaters on May 8, 2026 (see “‘Mortal Kombat 2’“).Source: ICv2
