During his keynote address at the ComicsPRO annual meeting, writer and Skybound co-founder Robert Kirkman announced that M.A.S.K. will join the Energon Universe.

The new series will be written by Dan Watters with art by Pye Parr and will make its first appearance on Free Comic Book Day as part of the Energon Universe Special 2026 FCBD comic, alongside all-new G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Void Rivals stories.

The first issue of the ongoing series will be released on June 3, 2026, with a main cover by Parr, open-to-order variants by J. Scott Campbell, Cedric Poulat, and Mark Spears, Energon Universe Third Anniversary connecting covers by Tom Reilly and Adriano Lucas, incentive variant covers by Kael Ngu, E.J. Su, Jonboy Meyers, Joshua Cassara and Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer, blank sketch covers featuring M.A.S.K. and V.E.N.O.M., foil covers by Pye Parr and J. Scott Campbell, and die-cut foil mask covers by Pye Parr, Luke Preece & Andres Juarez.

The launch will feature the first ever blind-bag program for the Energon Universe. The bags may contain any of the announced covers, intermixed with various degrees of rarity, plus three rare surprise covers. The surprise covers will not be publicly announced before the release date.

“We’re expanding the Energon universe very deliberately, very slowly, making sure that the line can sustain itself for as long as we want to do it,” Kirkman said in his address, “and M.A.S.K. is a book that’s going to add a lot of really great stuff to the Energon universe and really allow the books to interact in a way that they haven’t before.”

“Illusion is the ultimate weapon–but also sometimes weapons are the ultimate weapon,” Watters. Said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “M.A.S.K. is a book about ordinary people taking it into their own hands to face down the awesome weaponry of the Energon Universe–and a high octane, nonstop thrill ride to boot.”

Like G.I. Joe and the Transformers, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) began as a toy line and then was adapted into comics, movies, television, and other media, and like the other two, it is a Hasbro property. IDW was the previous publisher of M.A.S.K. comics (see “Hasbro’s ‘M.A.S.K.’ Gets Ongoing Series”).
