A high-grade Detective Comics #27 is already pre-bidding at $1.83 million (buyer’s premium included) at Heritage Auctions’ latest Comic Books Signature Auction.  This auction will be held from February 26-28, 2026.

Detective Comics #27 is, of course, one of the Holy Grails of comic collecting, featuring the first appearance of Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon.  This exact same book, CGC certification #0913676001, sold for $1.5 million in 2020 (see “Hammer Drops on ‘Detective Comics #27’ at a Record $1.5 million“).  There are only a total of two grade 7.0 copies of this book in the CGC census (with only six copies known in higher grades).  A higher graded copy last sold in 2010, and was the first comic book to break the million dollar mark (see “”Bats Beats Supes“)

In a 2024,  a CGC 6.5 copy sold for $1.825 million at a ComicConnect Event Auction.  Based on recent auction sales of incredibly rare high-grade comic books (see “$13 Million ‘Batman’ #1/’Superman’ #1 Mega Sale” and also, “‘Action Comics’ #1 Sells for $15 Million“), this book has a very good chance of realizing a fairly high hammer price by the end of the auction.  At very least, it will serve as a accurate gauge for how much best-of-breed collectible comics can increase over a short term investment time frame (as it is the same book being resold just over five years later).
