Kevin Eastman and Stan Sakai Lend Their Artwork to 'Magic: The Gathering' 'TMNT' Superdrop

Wizards of the Coast announced Secret Lair: Totally Tubular Superdrop, for Magic: The Gathering, which will hit preorder on March 2, 2026.

As expected, WotC is preparing to unleash another round of Secret Lair drop sets onto the masses to coincide with the release of their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set (see “Cowabunga, Dudes!“).  Aside from the few of desirable reprints included in these sets (like Sakashina’s Student, Triumph of the Hordes, and maybe Hardened Scales), the biggest story to come out this Superdrop is that WotC managed to convince Kevin Eastman and Stan Sakai to lend their artwork to some of the cards in these drop sets.

Eastman’s participation in the TMNT set was telegraphed early on because it was almost immediately announced that he had rendered a hot-stamped card for the main set.  However, Stan Sakai’s involvement in this release was not known up onto this point.  Needless to say, there are probably a lot of elated Usagi Yojimbo/Magic crossover fans out there that will be looking to play the legendary samurai hare as their Commander (see “Usagi Yojimbo“).

The Superdrop contains the following sets:

  • Secret Lair X TMNT: VHS Villains (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99):  VHS Villains showcases various Turtles villains in their 80s cartoon artwork. This set comes with a Delver of Secrets // Insectile Aberration; a Higure, the Still Wind as “Shredder, Criminal Mastermind”; a Species Specialist; a Rampaging Baloths as “Stampeding Brutes” and a Triskelion as “Krang’s Android.”
  • Secret Lair X TMNT: Mighty Mutanimals (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99):  This set features another cartoon tie-in with the Mutanimals.  It contains a Deepglow Skate as “Man Ray, Eco Avenger”; a Pirated Copy as “Slash, Evil Turtle from Dimension X”; a Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar as “Mondo Gecko, Esquire”; a Hardened Scales, and a Triumph of Hordes as “Mutanimals United.”
  • Secret Lair X TMNT: The Last Ronin (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99):  The Last Ronin was one of the most popular comic books ever released.  This homage art drop comes with a Settle the Wreckage; a Mental Misstep; an Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni as “Splinter, Vengeful Sensei”‘; an Anger and a Chord of Calling.
  • Featuring: Kevin Eastman (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99):  The Eastman drop is available as a color set and a black and white art set.  Both versions of the set come with a Loxodon Gatekeeper; a Sakashima’s Student; a Throat Slitter and a Guttersnipe.
