Dynamite, Coffin Comics Sign Co-Publishing Deal

Dynamite Entertainment and Coffin Comics have signed a co-publishing agreement to reprint collections of classic Chaos! Comics titles as well as associated merch, which will be crowdfunded on Kickstarter and also made available to the direct market.  The collaboration will begin with a comprehensive, three-volume Evil Ernie collection that will include the full Evil Ernie series as well as Smiley the Psychotic Button’s spinoffs and appearances by Lady Death, Purgatori, Chastity, and other Chaos! characters.

Other collections planned for future Kickstarters include Lady Death, Purgatori, Chastity, and the Coffin universe.  Planned extras include limited-edition single-issue reprints, posters, T-shirts, and other merch, and possibly a trading-card set as well.

Brian Pulido created Evil Ernie in 1991, with the late artist Steven Hughes, and founded Chaos! Comics in 1993.  Chaos! took over Evil Ernie and also published original characters, including Chastity, Lady Death, and Purgatori.  The company went bankrupt in 2002 (see “Chaos Auction Today”), and the rights to Lady Death were sold to CrossGen, while the other IP changed hands several times before landing at Dynamite Entertainment in 2010 (see “Dynamite Adds Bad Girls”).  Lady Death also went through several publishers and is currently published at Coffin Comics, which Pulido founded in 2015.

“Brian [Pulido] and I go back over 30 years, as two hardworking and strong-willed young guns in the industry back in the 1990s,” Dynamite CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci said in a statement accompanying the announcement.  “His energy is unmatched in this medium, and was always one of the most fun folks to work with in the early eras of Dynamic Forces.  Chaos! was always about rebellion and bringing electrifying art and ideas to the page.  Bringing this boundary-pushing art back to print has been a major goal.  Most importantly, this is something fans have wanted to see, and this reunion feels so good!”
