'Tecmo Bowl' Returns as a Card Game

Buffalo Games & Puzzles will release Tecmo Bowl, a new card game, into retail on October 1, 2026.

One of the most iconic American football arcade/video games ever produced was 1987’s Tecmo Bowl by Tecmo.  At its time, it was the most advanced sports games created for arcade machines and later, in 1989 the Nintendo Entertainment System.  The game stood out from other early sports games because it featured actual football players under an NFLPA license, like Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Lawrence Taylor and an absolutely unstoppable version Bo Jackson.  Later versions of this video game were produced without the NFLPA license; the NFL license eventually became exclusive with the Madden series of games.

The new card game allows gamers to hit the 8-bit gridiron for a cardboard adaptation of this classic game. The game features 12 teams, but only one can come out on top.  This game is for two to four players, ages 8 and up, and will retail for $14.99.
