Marvel Comics will mark the 20th anniversary of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s Civil War with a new five-issue limited series featuring the untold stories of the key characters: Iron Man, Spider-Man, Goliath, Tigra, and Captain America. Civil War: Unmasked, by writer Christos Gage, artist Edgar Salazar, and original Civil War colorist Morry Hollowell, will launch on May 6, 2026, and the first issue will have a main cover by Geoff Shaw and a variant by Steve McNiven.
“In 2006, I was a rookie comic book writer when a short delay in the production of the epic Civil War event limited series led to me being offered the one-shot Iron Man/Captain America: Casualties of War,“ Gage said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “It was my first really high profile project at Marvel, a big hit, and 20 years later, they still haven’t managed to get rid of me!”
Civil War continues to have readers 20 years after its release: The Marvel Premier Collection edition was one of the top 20 graphic novels in ComicHub when it was released in August 2025 (see “Top 20 Graphic Novels: August 2025”), and it also made the BookScan Superhero chart in August and September (see “August 2025 Circana BookScan“).
