DC Comics will publish an Absolute Edition of Jack Kirby’s The Demon in September 2026, and the character of Etrigan will return this year as part of DC’s Next Level initiative.
Kirby created The Demon in 1972, after DC cancelled his Fourth World titles. The series follows a demon, Etrigan, whom Merlin bound to a human, Jason Blood, to defend Camelot and who fights Arthurian demons on the streets of Gotham City in the 1970s. The Absolute Edition collects the 16-issue run written, penciled, and inked by Kirby, as presented by the Kirby Museum, along with essays by creators who wrote and drew the character for later runs, and a new forward by writer Steven Bissette. The 600-page hardcover, Demon by Jack Kirby Absolute Edition, will go on sale on September 1, 2026, with an MSRP of $125.
DC will bring back the character in 2026 as part of its DC Next Level initiative, which will bring back a number of less prominent characters (see “DC Plans Next Level”), including Lobo, Batwoman, and Deathstroke (see “DC Reveals Covers, Creative Teams for First ‘Next Level’ Series”).
