Archie Licenses IP to Oni Press for New Series, OGNs, and Collections

Oni Press and Archie Comics have announced a partnership that will kick off in 2026 with three new series published by Oni and will also encompass collections and omnibi of existing Archie work and original graphic novels for middle-grade and YA readers.

The partnership will launch in September 2026, the 85th anniversary of Archie Andrews’ first appearance in Pep Comics#22.  Oni-Lion Forge Publishing Group Chairman David Steward noted the significance of the relationship. “This new partnership is one of the most significant moments in Oni Press’ three decades as a leading publisher of independent comics,” he said, “and, in collaboration with the Archie team, we look forward to writing a memorable new chapter in the history of these legendary characters that will set the stage for decades worth of stories yet to come.”

The first three releases will be Archie #1, by Ice Cream Man writer W. Maxwell Prince and artists Fábio Moon and Nick Cagnetti, in September 2026; Sabrina the Teenage Witch #1, by Corinne Bechko and Kano, in October 2026; and Archie in Hell #1 by Patrick Horvath, writer and artist of the breakout horror series Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, and Harrow County artist Tyler Crook in November 2026.

In addition to these series, Oni plans to publish new collections of classic Archie comics in a variety of formats, including compact editions, deluxe hardcovers, omnibi, and boxed sets, spanning the history of Archie from the work of the original creators to current writers and artists including Chip Zdarsky, Dan Parent, and Fiona Staples.

In 2027, Oni will launch a new line of middle-grade and YA novels that will have their own continuity, making them readily accessible to new readers.

Oni Editor-in-Chief Sierra Hahn will oversee the new line, working with Oni Senior Editor Bess Pallares and Editor Megan Brown and in consultation with Archie Comics Senior Director of Editorial Jamie Rotante and Editor & Art Director Vincent Lovallo.

“Life in the 21st century isn’t all milkshakes and sunshine,” Hahn said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “What does it mean to be ‘America’s Favorite Teenager’ in 2026? Behind the scenes, for the better part of a year, we’ve been challenging ourselves to re-conceptualize a Riverdale that’s at once informed by all eras of Archie’s past, while also defining an utterly unique path into the future. With this new line, we’re hoping to forge an All-Star Superman moment for Archie’s brilliant constellation of characters – whether it’s W. Maxwell Prince, Fábio Moon and Nick Cagnetti on Archie, Corinna Bechko and Kano on Sabrina, or Patrick Horvath and Tyler Crook on their own Hell of a title, rest assured: You’ve never read an Archie comic quite like these before.”

While the Oni Press partnership is the first of its kind for Archie, the publisher did ink a deal recently with Dynamite to produce crossovers of the two publishers’ properties (see “New Archie – Dynamite Crossover Deal”).
