'Alias' Returns After 25 Years

Marvel Comics will launch a new Alias limited series to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original series, which introduced Jessica Jones to the Marvel Universe.  The original Alias, by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, launched Marvel’s Max mature-readers imprint, and the new five-issue series, by writer Sam Humphries and artist Geraldo Borges, will be released as a polybagged Red Band title.  Alias: Red Band will also return to the gritty, noir-inflected atmosphere of the original, as Jessica Jones teams up with Daredevil supervillain Tyhphoid Mary to investigate a series of murders in Hell’s Kitchen, while also dealing with her role as the wife of New York City Mayor Luke Cage.  The first issue will be released on March 11, 2026, with a main cover by David Mack and variants by Elena Casagrande and Jeehyung Lee.

Bendis and Gaydos’ Alias was launched just after Marvel stopped submitting comics for approval by the Comics Code commission (see “Marvel Books Code-Approved—Not!!”), and the first issue had to be moved to a different printer after the initial one refused to print it, claiming it was obscene (see “Printer Problems Don’t Stop Alias”).  The series, which ran for 28 issues, won a 2002 Harvey Award and was nominated for two Eisners.

Jessica Jones later got her own television series and is currently slated to return in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again (see “Jessica Jones“).
