PSA, SGC Parent Acquiring Beckett

PSA and SGC parent Collectors (Collectors Holdings Inc.) has reached a definitive agreement to acquire publisher, grading company, and marketplace Beckett, the companies announced, moving Beckett from one collectibles conglomerate (Collectivus) to another.  Collectivus also owns Southern Hobby, Dragon Shield, Sales First, Card Manager, and Merchant Guild.

Beckett will continue to operate as a separate brand in the Collectors family of companies. Orders at Beckett (and PSA) will continue to be processed normally, with no changes in pricing, according to the announcement.

Collectors acquired SGC, another PSA competitor, last year (see “PSA Owners Acquire SGC”). With this transaction, the Collectors family of companies will expand its dominant share of the TCG grading segment.  CGC will remain the largest competitor in the segment, but if last week’s Heritage auction is any indication, CGC grades do not appear to be bringing the same value as PSA grades (see “High-End Pokemon TCG, Magic Prices”).

In addition to PSA, SGC, and now Beckett, Collectors also owns PSA Vault, PCGS, Card Ladder, and Collectors Financial Services.
